Where the limits come from

  1. App Store Connect: app name 30, subtitle 30, keyword field 100, promotional text 170 characters.
  2. Google Play Console: app name 30, short description 80 characters.
  3. The counter counts characters as you see them. Do the final check against the counter in App Store Connect or Play Console.
  4. The repeat check reads the app name, subtitle and keyword field only: the three fields Apple indexes together for search.

How many characters can an App Store app name have?

30 characters. The subtitle is 30 too. Together with the 100-character keyword field, they are indexed for search as one.

Does the promotional text help with search?

The promotional text is 170 characters and can be changed without submitting a new version. Keyword work happens in the app name, subtitle and keyword field, the fields Apple indexes together.

How long can a Google Play short description be?

80 characters; the app name is 30. The full description runs up to 4,000 characters, and Google Play reads it for search as well.

Is what I type stored anywhere?
