# Compare app downloads and revenue without mixing scopes URL: https://storelift.net/guide/downloads-vs-revenue-scope/ Language: en Updated: 2026-10-02 Downloads and revenue can move differently because they describe different events and populations. A report should first establish whether it compares the same app, account, period and currency. Otherwise a persuasive chart may be joining numbers that do not belong together. ## Investigation steps 1. Identify whether each source reports app-level or account-level data. Keep account totals labeled as such; do not distribute them among apps using rank or download shares. 2. Record the revenue definition, currency and reporting window. Keep estimates, reported sales and proceeds distinguishable rather than treating them as one interchangeable amount. 3. Check the download definition and cohort timing. Revenue in a period may include existing subscribers, while new downloads describe a different population. ## Worked interpretation Illustrative case: new downloads decline while renewal revenue increases. The figures can both be correct. Dividing all renewal revenue by that week's new downloads does not produce the lifetime value of the new users. ## Decision and next check Present aligned source totals and their limits before calculating ratios. If the intended app or country breakdown is unavailable, say so. Use cohort-compatible acquisition and revenue data for unit-level questions rather than allocating aggregate totals by assumption. ## Related Storelift feature Read App Store analytics: install sources for the available product data and its scope.
