# App Store countries and languages 2026 URL: https://storelift.net/guide/app-store-countries-and-languages/ Language: en Updated: 2026-09-23 We verified 175 App Store storefronts one by one on 2026-09-23. Their default language codes collapse into just 42 codes (34 base languages): 92 storefronts (53%) read English by default — 85 of them en-GB alone — while 29 codes serve a single storefront each. ## The numbers at a glance | Measure | Value | | --- | --- | | Storefronts verified | 175 | | Candidates that failed and were dropped | 2 (Bangladesh, Liechtenstein) | | Distinct default language codes | 42 | | Distinct base languages | 34 | | Storefronts defaulting to English (any variant) | 92 (52.6%) | | Storefronts on en-GB alone | 85 (48.6%) | | Storefronts defaulting to Spanish | 18 (es-MX 17, es-ES 1) | | Language codes used by exactly one storefront | 29 | | Language codes used by two or more storefronts | 13 | The shape is lopsided: the 13 shared codes cover 146 storefronts, and the other 29 codes cover one each. For a store listing that means a single en-GB text is read in 85 storefronts and a single es-MX text in 17, while ja-JP, ko-KR or tr-TR each reach one market. ## Storefronts per base language Base languages that are the default in more than one storefront, with the regional codes they split into. Our own storefront measurement, last run 2026-09-23. For each storefront three Apple endpoints were called: search hints with the X-Apple-Store-Front header (a real storefront returns suggestions, a wrong ID returns none), /lookup with lang= and /lookup with country=. A storefront is counted only if all three pass. The row-level list is on App Store storefront country codes and downloadable as CSV. - n = 175 storefronts. 2 candidates (bd, li) are in circulating lists but returned no suggestions and no lookup results, so they are not counted. - What "default language" means here. Language candidates were tried local-language-first and the first code Apple accepted for the storefront was kept. It is the language we read that storefront in. NOTE: What this cannot tell you: the full list of languages Apple serves in a storefront (many show more than one), which localizations Apple indexes for search there, or whether a given app is available in a country — availability is each developer's choice. The counts describe the storefronts, not the apps in them. ## FAQ Q: How many countries is the App Store available in? A: We verified 175 storefronts on 2026-09-23. Two further codes that appear in public lists (Bangladesh and Liechtenstein) are accepted as codes but return no search suggestions and no lookup results, so they are not counted. Q: Which language does the App Store use in most countries? A: English. 92 of 175 storefronts default to an English code, and 85 of those use en-GB. Spanish is second with 18, almost all on es-MX. Q: How many languages does the App Store have? A: Across the 175 storefronts we measured there are 42 distinct default language codes, from 34 base languages. This counts storefront defaults, not the localizations App Store Connect lets you add to a listing; Apple lists those in the localizations reference linked below. Q: Which language codes are used by only one App Store storefront? A: 29 codes are the default in exactly one storefront, including bg-BG (Bulgaria), cs-CZ (Czechia), da-DK (Denmark), en-CA (Canada), en-IN (India), es-ES (Spain).
